Tucker County’s golf team had an eventful week. On Monday, they traveled to The Raven Golf Course at Snowshoe Mountain for a nine-hole match hosted by Tygarts Valley. This was a valuable preparation match for the upcoming PVC Golf Championship.
Although the Mt. Lions didn’t perform their best, they still secured second place, just three shots behind conference rival Tygarts Valley and two shots ahead of Pendleton County. Notably, two members of the team finished in the top 10: senior Drew Simmons placed eighth, and fellow senior Nate Davis earned low medalist honors.

On Tuesday, Tucker returned home to Canaan Valley and faced the same conference competitors from the previous day: Tygarts Valley, Pendleton, and Union. This match turned out to be their best performance as a team this season. They achieved a team score of 166, securing victory in another shootout where the top three teams were separated by only three strokes. During the match, four individuals from the team stood out with top 10 finishes: Nate Davis (2nd place with a score of 38), Drew Simmons (5th place with a score of 42), Cayden Arnold (tied for 7th place with a score of 43), and Ethan Cummings (tied for 7th place with a score of 43).
The team has a busy upcoming week. Starting on Monday at Valley View in Moorefield, they will play 18 holes against 15 other schools. Then, they will travel back to The Raven at Snowshoe Mountain for the 18-hole PVC Championship. Finally, they will conclude the week at home at Canaan Valley for a nine-hole match for both varsity and JV teams.
