The Town of Davis is planning to build a new building at the Town’s lower lot, according to Davis Town Mayor Al Tomson. Tomson made the announcement during the Town’s September 23 meeting in Davis Town Hall.
“The primary purpose of the building would be to store the vacuum truck,” Tomson said.
The vacuum truck requires winterization every year, Tomson said. Without this additional maintenance step, many crucial parts will freeze and break on the truck. A new building would allow the Town to store the truck in a climate controlled environment, allowing crews to utilize the vehicle year round when needed without repeated winterization.
“The winterizing is not really simple and un-winterizing is the same thing,” Tomson said. “So in the winter if we ever needed to use the truck, we needed to go through this rigmarole a couple of times.”
The new building is slated to be insulated and heated so that crews would not have to go through the process of winterizing and de-winterizing the truck each time it is needed in freezing weather and allow ready access to the vehicle 24/7 year round, Tomson said.
“We also want the building to be able to store other equipment that we have right now that is not stored under roof,” Tomson said. “It will also give the shop gentlemen an opportunity to work down there on the vehicles in an environment that is climate controlled.
This will be accomplished by building a 50 feet by 100 feet building at least 14 feet high, Tomson said. There are no cost estimates on the building yet, but Tomson said he thinks it will possibly be in the $40,000 to $50,000 range for just the metal building. A concrete pad will need to be poured and insulation work will need to be completed, as well, at additional cost, in addition to lighting, plumbing, etc.
“We are getting details, we are getting cost estimates and we will go from there,” Tomson said.
