Philippi, WV – After completing the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at the Randolph Technical Center in Elkins, Roberta “Bobbie” Troxal took a nursing position at Mansfield Place, Broaddus Hospital. She later transferred to a position in the Emergency Department. Seeking to further her career she enrolled at Davis and Elkins College to earn a degree as a registered nurse, while still working full time at Broaddus.
Last month Troxal was awarded the Young Trust Scholarship to assist in her pursuit of earning her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.
“I was absolutely ecstatic when I learned the hospital granted me the scholarship. I would have jumped up and down, but I was driving at the time,” said Troxal. “My family and everyone I work with have been very supportive in this endeavor and that means a lot. I know not everyone has support like I have been blessed with either at home or at work.”
“It’s great to know that your desire to learn is encouraged so strongly. I appreciate everything everyone has done and will do to help me accomplish my goal of being an RN,” she added.
The Young Trust Scholarship was established through the generosity of Guy and Marie Young and is administered by Broaddus Hospital and its governing Board. The focus of the scholarship is Healthcare Education for careers in a nursing related field. Preference is given to current Broaddus Hospital employees, and children of Broaddus employees. Preference will also be given to students choosing to enroll at Alderson Broaddus University.
“Bobbie not only exemplifies the outstanding qualities of a nurse but also the determination to achieve personal and professional growth,” said Broaddus Hospital Administrator Jeff Powelson. “We couldn’t be more pleased to award her with this scholarship.”
Troxal, who resides in Barbour County, will graduate from the RN program in May, 2016.
