Parsons, WV – Students at Davis Thomas Elementary School took part in a nationwide effort to “Read the Most Coast to Coast” on Friday, February 27. They joined hundreds of thousands of students in Renaissance Learning’s celebration that encourages students to read as much as they can. This year students nationwide read an amazing 4,173,153 books!
Read the Most Coast to Coast celebrates students as they read books. Each student also completes an Accelerated Reader Quiz after each book they read.
Approximately 200 DTEMS students took part in this shared effort. Older students read to younger students, there was teacher led read aloud time, independent reading time, and partner reading time. Participants received a Certificate of National Participation.
“Read the Most Coast to Coast is a fun filled event that enables our students to join with others across the nation in a shared challenge, all while engaging in valuable reading practice,” said Alicia Lambert, Principal. “We are proud of our students. They were so excited to contribute to the national book count and see the totals tracked in real time on Renaissance Learning’s website.”
Renaissance Learning’s Accelerated Reader, the nation’s most widely used reading management program for K12 schools, helps educators generate excitement for reading and monitor students’ personalized reading practice. Students read a book at the appropriate level and then take a quiz to show they understood what they’ve read. The web-based program provides access to over 160,000 quizzes, enabling students to choose from a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books.
