Elkins, WV—Davis Medical Center (DMC) will sponsor a Women’s Health Day on Saturday, April 11 from 7:30 a.m. until noon. Free screenings, information and discounted blood profiles especially tailored for the health needs of women will be available.

The event is being held at DMC’s new outpatient center, ground floor. For convenience, participants should enter using the new entrance on Gorman Avenue and park in the adjacent patient parking area.

“We’re making these valuable tests affordable and convenient to women, “ said Anne Banfield, MD, Director of Women’s Health Services for DMC. “Too often women put off their own health needs placing themselves at greater risk for illness, cancer or chronic disease.”

Women’s HealthCare providers will offer free pap tests and clinical breast examinations by appointment. Women who have had a pap test in the last 12 months or who have had a hysterectomy (not due to cancer) are not encouraged to have the pap test. For information about screening guidelines or to schedule an appointment call Central Scheduling at 304.637.3185.

A multi-phasic blood analysis will be available at a discounted cost of $30 which includes a complete blood count (CBC), comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid levels and iron. Overnight fasting is recommended. Other low cost blood tests being provided include thyroid (TSH) $5, Vitamin B12 Folate $20, Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy $40, HGB A1C $15, C Reactive Protein Inflammatory $10, and C Reactive Protein Cardiac $10. Cash, check and/or credit card are accepted for blood tests. Insurance will not be billed.

Additional free screenings include blood pressure and pulse oxygen checks, weight and the dexa heel scan which screens for osteoporosis. DMC radiology staff will provide education on digital mammography and the new 4-D LOGIQ ultrasound technology. There will also be information on Alpha One testing, nutrition, fitness, the 100 Miles in 100 Days Walking Program and more.

“We want to make having great health simpler for women and all residents in our community,” said Davis Health System CEO Mark Doak. “Hosting community events which offer screenings and education about personal health and wellness is part of our mission as a regional health system. We encourage many women to take advantage of Women’s Health Day.”

There will be refreshments and a special gift for the first 100 women to attend. The DHS Gift Garden will be open during the event.
