The awards and reception for this year’s STArt Student Art Show is scheduled from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 in the Davis Fire Hall. In order to allow members of the community an opportunity too vote for the first, second and third place People’s Choice Awards, the Davis Fire Hall will be open from 2 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 and again on Sunday, May 3 from noon until the awards program begins at 3:30 p.m.

The arts are a vital and essential core of human existence. In order to encourage and support students who participate in the arts, the WV Highlands Artisans Group sponsors the annual STArt (School-Town Art) Student Art Show to recognize and award student art. A display is presented of works completed by Tucker County students and prizes, both cash and honorable mentions, are awarded to students in grades K – 2, 3 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9 -12. Additionally, the Towns of Thomas, Davis and Parsons present awards to students for their projects. The Davis Volunteer Fire Department also recognizes student work with an award. A Best of Show is presented as well. This year the Tucker Community Foundation has introduced three People’s Choice Awards.

Once the Student Art Show is completed, all student work will be on display in over 30 county businesses throughout the month of May. The prize winning works will be brought together in a special “pop-up gallery” during ArtSpring over Memorial Day weekend in the former Q’s Corner Laundromat in Davis.

As a part of the Student Art Show, Tucker Valley Middle School students will perform musical selections.

Plan to show your support of the county’s fine and performing arts programs by attending the Art Show and casting your vote.
