obit FlanaganMartha “Marty” Ann Flanagan, 58, of Beckley, died May 5, 2015, with her family by her side at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.

Marty was born May 15, 1956 in Parsons to Doyle Clarence Hardy and Wanda Louise Parsons.

She was a 1974 graduate of Parsons High School in Parsons.  After graduation she married Gary Lynn Flanagan on May 18, 1974, and they were both sealed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Temple in Washington D.C. on June 1, 1976. She worked various jobs over the years, but most recently was a wireless consultant of U.S. Cellular for 16 years prior to her diagnosis of colon cancer in September of 2011.  She was a very proud and devoted wife, mother, grandmother “Grammy”, sister, aunt, and friend to many.  Her joy and love for life and her family was evident in everything she did. She was a true angel, an inspiration to those around her and never met a stranger. She was always smiling, willing to help anyone and often opened her home to those in need. She enjoyed collecting antiques, shopping, talking with friends, spoiling her children and grandchildren, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be dearly and lovingly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband Gary L. Flanagan; Her four children and eight grandchildren, including her son Travis S. and wife Mellisa S. Flanagan of Dayton, OH and their children Alex and Gunner; her daughter Stephanie D. and husband William B. Hood III of Parsons, and their children Liam and London; her son Rudolph R. and wife Sarah W. Flanagan of Parkersburg, and their children Lauren and Anna; and her son Christopher A. and wife Ashley B. Flanagan of Morgantown, and their children Eli and Julianne.  She is also survived by her brother James W. and his wife Mary Hardy of Beckley, and her sister Dorothy E. Hardy of Elkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle C. and Wanda L. Hardy, formerly of Parsons.

A visitation was held Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Beverly from 6-8 p.m.  A funeral service was conducted at the church on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery.   The Summerfield Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Martha “Marty” Ann Flanagan.
