Tucker Co boys pick up wins at home over East Hardy & Petersburg

HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions opened their home schedule last Wednesday December 16th against East Hardy. Tucker County pulled away in the second quarter and took home the victory 77-42.

The game was close in the early minutes of the first quarter, but the Mt. Lions stormed ahead late in the first to take a 20-12 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter belonged to Tucker County as they held the visiting Cougars to just 3 points in the quarter and Seth Evans scored 18 of Tucker County’s 22 points in the period to put the Mt. Lions ahead at the half 42-15.

In the third quarter the Mt. Lions exploded for 26 points compared to East Hardy’s 11 to make the score 68-26 after three. Tucker County emptied the bench in the fourth and got some reserve players some varsity time as the game ended with Tucker County picking up the victory 77-42.

Seth Evans led Tucker County with a career high 34 points, 16 rebounds and Ethan Crosten added 9 points. Josh Kincaid had 7 points and Skyler Humphrey collected 6 points, 10 rebounds for Tucker County. East Hardy was led by Tim Hahn and Brett Tharp with 15 points each. The Mt. Lions JV team picked up the victory also 60-32.

 

HAMBLETON – Tucker County finished the week by hosting longtime “AA” rival Petersburg on Friday December 18th. The Mt. Lions started fast once again and got the victory over Petersburg 85-73.

Tucker County stormed out of the gate as they led after one quarter 22-12. The second quarter was a little closer, but the Mt. Lions extended their lead as they outpaced the Vikings 17-15 in the quarter to take a 39-27 lead at the half.

Petersburg found themselves down by as many as 18 points in the third, but they battled back late in the quarter to keep it close as Tucker County led 61-45 after three. The visiting Vikings would not quit as they continued to trail the home standing Mt. Lions in the fourth. Petersburg managed to outscore Tucker County in the fourth 28-24, but theat wasn’t enough as Tucker County took home the victory 85-73.

The Mt. Lions placed 4 players in double figures as Seth Evans led the way for Tucker County with 27 points, 9 rebounds and Ethan Crosten added 17 points, 4 steals, 8 assists. Kordell Fulton had 16 points, 7 assists and Marcus Mason chipped in 13 points, 4 assists. Skyler Humphrey collected 8 rebounds for Tucker County in the win. Petersburg was led by Jace Shanholtz with 26 points and Ryan VanMeter added 22 points in the loss for the Vikings. The Tucker County JV team fell to Petersburg in the first game 58-40.

The Mt. Lions(4-0) will host Tygarts Valley tonight December 23rd and then they will host Petersburg on Wednesday December 30th.
