HAMBLETON – A much loved item that depicts the history of the Tucker County High School Band has made its way back home, thanks to the generosity of its owner.
The Tucker County High School Band Quilt, pieced and stitched by St. George resident Mary Jane Smith, was donated back to the high school last week so it can be displayed and enjoyed by those attending and visiting the school.
The quilt was made using pieces of Tucker County High School band uniforms from the past, and features that familiar gold and black, representing the Mountain Lions. The quilt was the grand prize in a band raffle during Christmas Concert, and was won by Case Drumheller, the Tucker County High School Marching Band Drum Major for 2011 to 2012.
During that time, the TCHS Marching Band director was Heather Lantz. She spearheaded lots of fundraisers with the band boosters, and the quilt raffle was one of those good fundraisers. “The quilt is one of a kind and I feel like it deserves to be back in the school and featured at Tucker County High School,” Drumheller said.
