PARSONS – It was with deep regret and sadness that members of the Parsons City Council voted to accept the resignation of Parsons City Recorder Connie Collins. She stated her resignation came as a result of hea lth issues.
“I am sorry she is that sick and we are going to miss her,” Parsons Mayor Dorothy Judy said. “She hasn’t been feeling well but I hate to see her go. She has always done a great job.”
Parsons Treasurer/Administrator Jason Myers said Collins’ resignation will not become effective until she has been replaced when another takes the oath of office.
Councilman Tim Auvil made the motion to accept Collins’ resignation with regret. “I want to thank her for her service over all of these years,” Auvil said.
Myers said the City is placing ads in the newspaper for a replacement for Collins.
“We already have one letter of interest for that position,” Myers said.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting Auvil read a letter from
“This process has taken a number of years,” Auvil said before reading the letter. “Parsons will become the 8th CRS Community in West Virginia.”
Auvil said the letter said if Parsons comes in as expected, each flood insurance policyholder wills save approximately $300 per year on average. Auvil said the savings will amount to approximately $39,000 which he said will likely stay in the community.
CRS is the Community Rating System for this insurance. Council members said residents should see the savings on their flood insurance beginning in May.
The next Parsons City Council meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Feb. 2.
