BAKER – Tucker County traveled to Hardy County on Wednesday February 3rd to face off against East Hardy. The Mt. Lions got off to a slow start and trailed at the half, but rallied back in the third to pick up the road win 70-59.
The visiting Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and held the lead at the end of one 18-14. The Cougars fought back in the second to take the lead and outscored Tucker County in the quarter 16-10 to lead at the half 30-28.
Tucker County exploded out of the locker room in the third quarter as they outpaced the Cougars in the third 28-14 to take a commanding 56-44 lead after three. East Hardy cut into the Tucker County lead in the fourth, but they could not get any closer than 6 points. The Mt. Lions controlled the game late and pushed the lead back to double digits to take the road victory 70-59.
Seth Evans led Tucker County with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Ethan Crosten had 17 points, 5 assists and Kordell Fulton added 11 points, 4 assists. Marcus Mason netted 9 points and Skyler Humphrey collected 7 rebounds for Tucker County in the win. Brett Tharp led East Hardy with 21 points. Tucker County JV got the win also 51-42.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted rival Southern, MD on Friday February 5th. In a defensive battle Tucker County got a lead early and never relinquished it to pick up the victory 51-43.
The game started with the defense on both teams stepping up and the offense struggled as Tucker County led 8-6 after one quarter. The Mt. Lions got the offense going in the second quarter and extended their lead as they outscored Southern 19-12 in the quarter to take a 27-18 advantage into the half.
Both teams played even in the third and the score was 36-27 Tucker County after three. The Mt. Lions would not let Southern back into the game as they answered every run to push the lead back to double digits. Tucker County made their foul shots down the stretch to pick up the hard fought victory by the final score of 51-43.
Seth Evans scored 25 points to lead Tucker County and Ethan Crosten added 11 points, 7 assists. Skyler Humphrey pulled down a team high 13 rebounds and Evans collected 9 rebounds as well in the win for Tucker County. Southern was led by Logan Hinebaugh and Ryan Hebb with 14 points each. The Mt. Lions JV team got the win 60-50.
HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team finished out the busy week at home on Saturday February 6th at home against Pocahontas County. In a high scoring affair the Mt. Lions pulled away from the Warriors in the third and never looked back in route to an 88-74 win.
Tucker County got off to a slow start and Pocahontas County started the game strong as the visiting Warriors led after one quarter 17-12. The Mt. Lions responded in the second quarter as they outpaced the Warriors in the second 26-18 to make the halftime score 38-35 Tucker County at the half.
The Mt. Lions extended their lead in the third as they outscored Pocahontas County 23-17 to take a 61-52 advantage after three. The fourth quarter was owned by the Mt. Lions as they came out on fire and built lead as big as 18 points. Tucker County exploded for 27 points in the fourth quarter and took home the victory 88-74.
Seth Evans led Tucker County with 22 points and Ethan Crosten was close behind with 21 points and 3 steals. Kordell Fulton added 14 points and Skyler Humphrey controlled the glass with 10 points, 16 rebounds, 7 blocks. The Mt. Lions also got 18 points off the bench as Josh Kincaid and Wesley Snyder scored 9 points each. Pocahontas County was led by Ryan Dilly with 22 points. The Mt. Lions JV team picked up the win also over the Warriors undefeated JV team 79-70.
The Mt. Lions(14-1) will host Moorefield tonight February 10th. Then Tucker County will host Pendleton County on Friday February 12th and then they will travel to Charleston Catholic on Saturday February 13th. On Tuesday February 16th the Mt.
