TUCKER COUNTY SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Due to the coronavirus all activities at the Tucker County Senior Centers have been suspended until further notice. The office staff is still working so that if our seniors need anything, we are there to help. We are still delivering meals to those in need.

If you see something on the menu that you really like, call the day before or very early that morning and have them fix one for you. You may then come to the back door and give your donation to the cooks who will hand you your meal.

At this point in time, we are asking you to hold any trip payments until we hear something from the tour companies. They are still closed because of the coronavirus so just put the money “in the cookie jar” until we are able to take payments again. We are waiting for information from the tour company about the trip to Lancaster July 21 – 23. We will let you know when we find out something.

REMINDER ABOUT THE CENSUS FORMS

The Census Bureau is distributing Census forms for you to register online at my2020census.gov. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you register with the Census Bureau. It only takes 5 or 10 minutes to fill out the form. You may find a Census form on your porch or near your mail box in the coming weeks (some people have already received them.) PLEASE take a few minutes to fill them out and mail them in or you may call the Census Bureau and give them your information over the phone. Because of the coronavirus the people coming to your house at this point will not be able to help you fill them out. If you have a caregiver, friend, or neighbor that can help you fill them out that would be great. The Census worker will have a black tote bag with the Census logo, proper identification, and they will be wearing a mask as directed by the government. If you do not complete the form online, by mail, or by phone then in a couple of months someone will come to your house for a face-to-face meeting. The census is done every 10 years and this determines what monies our county and state receive from the federal government for schools, roads, senior services, and healthcare as well as how many representatives West Virginia will have in the House of Representatives. It is extremely important that everyone participate so that we are treated fairly. If you have any questions or need help, we will be glad to help you after we open back up at the Centers.

We ask that you continue the things you have been doing to stay safe. With the state beginning to open back up we MUST continue to follow the guidelines for keeping ourselves and others safe to avoid any further spread of the coronavirus. We are anxious to have you back with us but please know that we will be following the guidelines set up by the Bureau of Senior Services, The County Health Department, and the Governor of West Virginia.
