TRAVEL NEWS
We are considering four possible trips for next fall (probably the second or third week of September). We don’t have all the details yet but they are summarized below. - Rails & Sails—Maine & Boston–Lobster bake, Kennebunkport, tour Boston, Authentic Lobster harvesting on a Lobster boat tour, narrated boat cruise in Boothbay Harbor, ride on a vintage steam train, outlet shopping in Freeport, home of LL Bean and Nubble Light in Cape Neddick; 6 days/5 nights, approximate cost is $ 925 per person/ double occupancy.
- Vermont—Luncheon cruise on Lake Champlain, visit the von Trapp family Inn (lunch included), von Trapp Family History tour, New England Maple Museum, view a beautiful covered bridge at Woodstock, Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon”, Tour Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory, the Vermont Country Store, and Hershey’s Chocolate World. 6 days/5 nights, approximate cost $ 900 per person/double occupancy.
- Cape Cod, Boston, & Newport, RI—Lobster bake dinner, ferry ride to & tour of Martha’s Vineyard, tour of Boston, explore Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market in Boston, tour Hyannis, tour historic Newport, RI; 6 days/5nights, approximate cost $ 960 per person/double occupancy.
- San Antonia, Texas—dinner show in Nashville, a Texas-Style dinner at The Knibbe Ranch ( an actual working ranch where you can see The Famous Texas Longhorns), city tour of San Antonio including the San Fernando Cathedral, the historic center of the city’s Mexican culture, hear Mariachi bands, visit the Alamo. The Mission San Jose, see an IMAX movie about the Alamo, explore the famed San Antonio Riverwalk with boat cruise, visit the Institute of Texan Cultures, the LBJ National Historic Park, the National Museum of the Pacific War, and the San Antonio Shoe Company, 1 night in Dallas with a guided tour, 1 night in Nashville with a dinner show, 1 night stay in Memphis with dinner at a famous Memphis BBQ. 10 days/ 9 nights, approximate cost is $1750 per person/double occupancy.
All trips include standard taxes, gratuities, luggage handling, and motor coach transportation.
There is travel protection insurance available for all these trips. The cost is based on the price of the trip. For more information stop by the Parsons Center Monday through Friday from noon until 3 p.m. and talk to Linda Bonner.
OCTOBER 8 TRIP TO LIGONIER
The itineraries for the October 8th trip to Ligonier are ready. You may stop by the Parsons Center from 8 to 3 Monday through Friday to pick up yours.
HOLIDAY CLOSING
The Tucker County Senior Centers will be closed on Monday October 8, 2018 in observance of Columbus Day. They will reopen on Tuesday at the regular time.
COLLECTION FOR CHARLESTON, SC TRIP
The next collection date for the Charleston, SC trip is Thursday, October 11th. If possible, please to have your check and payment stub here between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
MT. TOP BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND GAME DAY
The Mt. Top Center will honor those having an October birthday on Tuesday, October 9th. A delicious cake will be provided by WV Caring. If you come early (around 10:30 a.m.) you can join in the fun and games.
NATIONAL WEAR DENIM DAY
National Wear Denim Day is Friday, October 5th. The Parsons Center will be celebrating this on Thursday, October 4th and Friday, October 5th. Anyone who wears denim on these 2 days will drop money in the collection basket. Because October is Breast Cancer Month, all donations collected will be given to Kellie Flynn who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
FLU SHOT CLINIC AT THE PARSONS CENTER
The St. George Medical Center will be holding a flu shot clinic at the Parsons Center on Monday, October 15th from 8 a.m. until noon.
