The 17thannual Senior Olympics were held in Keyser, recently. There were 129 participants from 12 West Virginia counties and several Maryland counties.
The ages ranged from 55 to 101 years old. Participants compete according to age groups. There were over 500 medals and 10 trophies awarded to a total of 115 people. There was 1 record set—by our own Jim Buddingh. He got 12 out of 15 shots in the basketball free throw.
The 9 participants from Tucker County won a total of 53 medals and 1 trophy. They got 14 gold, 25 silver, and 14 bronze medals. Jim Buddingh led the way with 14 medals (5 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze) followed by Meg Buddingh 11 medals (2 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze), Mary Mullenax 11 medals (3 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze), Caroline Pell 6 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze), Linda Bonner 6 medals ( 3 silver and 3 bronze), Shirley Cassidy 4 medals ( 1 gold and 3 silver) and Mary Frances Good 1 medal (Gold).
There were 14 county banners on display. Tucker won the trophy for the best banner (See photo).
