Because we can’t go on any trips this year, I will be putting some websites here in our column for those who have a computer. You will be able to take virtual tours or at least have some entertainment. This week you need to go to https://artsandculturewithgoogle.com. This site covers several national parks. Enjoy the scenery.
It’s that time of year again. Medicare Open Enrollment is from October 15th to December 7th. Now is your chance to review your coverage and compare it to other options. Over the next few weeks, be looking for information from your current plan, Medicare, or Social Security. Be on the lookout for your new “Medicare & You” handbook. Just remember that plans are not allowed to call or come to your home without an invitation from you.
Call NOW to make an appointment with the SHIP Counselors. You need to call 304-636-4747. Due to the Covid pandemic, they are trying to handle the appointments primarily over the phone. They have been doing this for several months and it is working well. THE SCHEDULE FILLS UP QUICKLY SO CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT NOW. They are already booked some in November! Last year they ran out of appointments before the end of Open Enrollment!
Today is Veterans Day. Please remember our brave men and women that have fought to protect our rights. Please also remember those who are currently serving in our military. In the next week I am challenging you to walk up to as many veterans as you can and thank them for their service. It will be a blessing to them but also to you. We should do this every day; not just on Veterans Day!
Many people are unaware that there is a “Women in Military Service to America” memorial in Washington, D.C. It is a beautiful building located at the entrance to Arlington Cemetery. If you know of a woman who has served or is serving in the military you need to tell them about it. You can look it up on the internet or contact Linda J Bonner, Activities Director, at the Senior Center for more details. Call 304-478-2423.
This week is “National Home Care Aide Week.” Tucker County is blessed to have many great Home Care Workers. We want them to know that we really appreciate all they do to help our seniors.
