Refuge 20th Anniversary Celebration. Saturday, August 16, starting at 7 am, at Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Join us for a morning of activities, tours, exhibits, refreshments, and celebration.
7 a.m.: Celebration of Birds Birdwalk. Join us for this early morning birdwalk and see the wonderful variety and beauty of our local birds. Meet at Visitor Center.
8 – 10 a.m.: Biology Habitat Tour. Come along with our biologists to learn how the Refuge is working to develop habitats for wildlife, especially our birds. Meet at Visitor Center.
9-11 a.m.: The Power of Partnerships. Join our management and Refuge partners on this tour to learn about a project planned to improve native fish populations in Idlemans Run. Meet at the Visitor Center.
9 a.m. – noon: Cool Tools and Big Wheels. The Refuge maintains many buildings and miles of trails and roads. Meet the people that make this happen and see the cool tools that are used in the process. At the maintenance building.
9 a.m.- noon: Visitor Center Open. Drop by and visit our exhibits and special 20th anniversary activities. Talk to our volunteers about on-going projects and participate in some fun activities for the entire family. We’ll also be serving refreshments and, of course, birthday cake!
9 a.m. – noon: Go Native Refuge Garden Tour. Meet the Refuge volunteers in the Refuge Garden and find out what you can do in your own backyard to encourage pollinators.
9 a.m. – noon: Let’s Go Outside Family Activities. Join members of our Environmental Education committee in the Refuge garden area for nature-inspired craft or to play a game.
noon: VISITOR CENTER CLOSES for our volunteer recognition event.
3 p.m.: Canaan Valley History Walk. The day wraps up with a walk to a historic site which shaped the history and fortunes of logging-era Canaan Valley. Meet at the Visitor Center parking lot.
