The Tucker County Veterans Association will be holding 2 Memorial Day Ceremonies this year
The first will be in Parsons at the Memorial Wall. It will be held on Saturday May 25 at 11:00AM
The second will be on Sunday, May 26 at the new Davis Veterans Monument located across the street from the Davis Post Office at 1:00PM
Great Courtroom Dramas of Tucker County in the 1890s
Friends of Blackwater will have a historical talk Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Cottrill Opera House, in Thomas. Guest speaker Tom Rodd will give a lecture on the early court cases that helped shape Tucker County’s history, including a ground-breaking civil rights case and a scandalous shoot-out. Gazebo Dedication
Dedication begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 26 at Canaan Valley State Park behind the recreation building, Living Memorial Tree Grove. This Living Memorial and Gazebo honor the military and their families that sacrificed for our country. Dedicated by West Virginia Gold Star Mothers and constructed by students at the Rubenstein Center.
3rd Annual Goat Gallop 5K Walk/Run and Kid’s Race
Registration is open for Arthurdale Heritage’s 3rd Annual Goat Gallop 5K. The course is mostly flat with one big hill – great for walkers and runners of all abilities.

Friday, May 17, 10 am, Storytime: Bring the young ones and join volunteers as they talk about a new nature-oriented topic. Volunteers will read one or more stories to children to help them understand all the fascinating things about some feature of our natural world. Meet at the Refuge Visitor Center.
Saturday, May 18, 2pm, Voyages in The Valley – Wetlands: Join Ranger Ted Hodson for a walk at Freeland Boardwalk. Learn about wetlands, why they are so important, and how the refuge manages these important habitats. Meet at the visitor Center.
Four-Night Revival – United Methodist Parish
Revival begins on Thursday, May 16 at St. John’s UMC, Parsons; Friday, May 17 at Buena Chapel in Canaan Valley; Saturday, May 18 at St. Paul’s UMC, Parsons; and Sunday, First UMC, Parsons. Each service begins at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
Food Handler’s Class
Tucker County Health Department will be conducting Food Handler’s training Classes, at the Senior Center, in Thomas, on Wednesday, May 22 at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Those persons attending the class will be issued a food handler’s permit which will be good for two years. A $10 registration fee will e collected upon admittance. The classes will start promptly and late arrivals will not be admitted.
Historical Society Meeting
The Tucker County Historical Society will meet Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. at the Tucker County Historical Society Museum, in the Tucker County Annex. Visitors welcome.
