Zirk of the Tucker County Sheriff’s office received a call from Tucker County Animal control Officer D.C. Baker. Zirk was requested by Baker to assist with a possible animal cruelty complaint. They traveled to the complainant’s residence and obtained photographic evidence as well as a written statement. She stated she heard from a friend that Heather Craun had pit bull puppies. She stated she messaged and asked if she had any left. Craun allegedly stated she had four left and at that time was asked if the puppies were free or how much did she want for them. Craun answered all she wanted was a bag of dog food, a pack of smokes and a drink. She could not send any pictures because she did not have any electricity and could not charge her phone. The witness stated she bought the items and took them to Craun’s house where she was given a female puppy. Once it was seen how bad of shape the puppy was in it was imperative to contact someone.
- Zirk and Baker traveled to Craun’s residence, knocked on the door and announced “Sheriff’s Office.” Craun was advised that the officers received a complaint for a puppy that she had just given to someone. She stated she was trying to get rid of the puppies because she could not care for them and also stated there are three dogs she wants to keep. Zirk asked what she wanted to do with the puppies and she allegedly stated she wanted to give them up. She agreed to let Baker take possession of the puppies. She turned over four puppies that were transported to the Tucker County animal Shelter where further investigation continued and photo evidence was collected.
- On Monday, April 1, Zirk was advised by the Tucker County Animal shelter Director, Bailey Falls that the puppies were taken to the vet.
