The following criminal complaints have been filed in the Tucker County Magistrate Court:
Mercedes Faith Wegman, Elkins, was charged with one count Possession with intent to deliver (meth). According to the complaint, on Wednesday, July 29 at approximately 8:47 a.m. Parsons Chief of Police J.E. Kopec was traveling north on US219 in Parsons negotiating a turn when the accused, Mercedes Faith Wegman, was traveling south in a black 2004 Mustang. The vehicle was across the centerline and Kopec had to swerve right to keep from hitting her head on. He turned around and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. He activated his lights and observed the vehicle in the distance to be swerving and jerking left and right in the roadway. She pulled over along Moore Station Rd approximately 40 feet from US219. Kopec made contact with the driver and began questioning her in reference to the erratic driving and traveling across the line. He observed multiple indicators suggesting a strong possibility of narcotics in the vehicle. He requested backup and was informed by the passenger, Gregory Coontz, that there was a firearm in the center console. When backup arrived, Kopec requested the two to exit the vehicle. After a pat down search on both parties he asked Wegman if there were any drugs in the vehicle and she allegedly admitted she had an “eight ball” of meth in the vehicle and it was in her bag. Tucker County Sheriff Deputy B.T. Zirk and K-9 Gabor arrived and conducted an air search around the vehicle which resulted in a positive indicator of narcotics being in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted by Kopec which yielded a bag of what is believed to be methamphetamine, a digital scale, numerous small empty bags and a loaded hand gun in the center console. Wegman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. She was also cited for failure to keep right. The vehicle, which was registered to Gregory Coontz, was seized and transported to the City of Parsons lot for storage. Coontz allegedly stated the pistol and the scale were his. The accused was transported to the Parsons State Police Detachment for fingerprinting and then to the Parsons Police Department for processing. Evidence was seized and logged into evidence at the Parsons Police Department. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
