Criminal Complaints
The following criminal complaints have been filed in the Tucker County Magistrate office:
- Travis Edward Barkley, of Parsons has been charged with two counts of Shoplifting, First Offense. According to the complaint on Tuesday, July 1 Patrolman First Class N.C. Gidley received a direct complaint from the Store Manager of BFS in Parsons. In regards to a theft of liquor.
Upon making contact with a store employee, the employee stated, in summary, that a male individual came into the store the previous evening and shoplifted a 750ml bottle of Fireball valued at $21,99 before tax. The employee identified the subject as Travis E. Barkley. The employee stated that he was observing the suspect in the area of the liquor and throughout the duration of being in the store, acting suspicious. The employee stated that the suspect then exited the liquor section, paid for some items, and exited the store after a few minutes. The employee then stated that they reviewed CCTV footage of him picking up a bottle of Fireball, make a motion consistent with taking the security tag off the bottle, make a motion consistent with putting the bottle into his pants pocket, exit the liquor section, pay for items at the counter that were not a bottle of Fireball, the exit the store.
After reviewing the CCTV footage the following day, Gidley saw the suspect enter the store at approximately 9:18 p.m. and is observed picking up a bottle of Fireball shortly after. He then makes motions consistent with the removal of a security tag, consistent with the placing of the bottle into his pants pocket and exits the liquor area. The bottle of Fireball that he picked up is not placed back on the shelf. The suspect is observed moving around the store on other cameras and it is evident that the bottle is in his pocket. He then pays for another item(s) and exits the store at approximately 9:29 p.m. without paying for the bottle of Fireball.
- Frank G. Dotson, of Parsons, was charged with one count of Removal, injury to or destruction of property and one count of Trespass on property other than structure or conveyance. The complaint states that on Wednesday, July 2 a complaint was filed with the WVSP Parsons Detachment where the victim advised that Frank “Chip” Dotson had went to their camp and removed fencing and gates. The victim further stated that the defendant did not have permission and was not asked to do any work on the property.
Upon traveling to said location, the officer observed fencing stacked in a pile near the property line. It was evident that equipment had been present on the property. It was also evident that the equipment was coming out of the driveway of the defendant. Two large gate posts and two pipe gates were missing from the property along with barbed wire around a pond, a wooden gate (destroyed), and split rail fencing taken down and destroyed. The two missing gate posts were observed from Clay Lick Road along the driveway of the defendant.
The victim had contacted the defendant regarding the removal of the said items and the defendant told him “He was just cleaning up” and alluded that the fence was on his property. The victim advised the officer that the fence around the perimeter of the camp had been in place for 30 years. The total amount of property destroyed is estimated to be approximately $990.
These incidents occurred in Tucker County and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
