Camp Kidd Park was full of 4-H Spirit June 25-29 when 86 local youths filled the grounds for the annual Tucker County 4-H Camp.
The week, themed Life’s a Beach at 4-H camp kicked off with an assembly by Al Hall, a Steel Drum Band from Morgantown. Other assemblies included square dancing, folk dancing, Celebrate West Virginia by Mick Souter, WVU Mountaineer Trevor Keiss and Native American education by Paula Stahl & Buddy Aiken.
Andrew Bonner and Peyton Hicks received a full return scholarship in memory of Cpt. Arnett Kidd, first Extension Agent in Tucker Co. for being named outstanding first year campers.
Madison Mullenax and Angela Myers were recognized and given spirit sticks for aging out of the 4-H program and dedicating 13 years to coming to 4-H camp.
Jack Melnick was chosen as the Spirit of Camp. The Spirit is a 4-Her who best displays the high level quality character and positive, helpful attitude that contributes towards the success of camp. Melnick receives a full return scholarship in memory of past 4-H Extension Agent and long-time 4-H volunteer Dottie Jones.
For demonstration of mature, level headed behavior and decision making, Ethan Carr was awarded the Head H. For his gracious and encouraging spirit, Cameron Mullenax was named Heart H. Mikayla Wilson was appointed the Hands H for being incredibly helpful throughout the week while Sarah Bates was presented the Health H for promoting a healthy lifestyle to other campers.
Two half return scholarships were awarded to Aiden Sigley and Kitty Loughrie for good grooming.
Leadership patches were given to Angela Myers, Devin Teter, Wyatt Betler, Tate Mullenax and Wesley Strawderman for being helpful to younger campers and contributing to the success of camp as a whole.
4-H Camp would not be possible without the numerous adults that volunteer their time. Instructors and resident staff included Becky White, Beki Bonner, Karen Long, Dee Stevens, Cindy Harsh, Nick Nedrow, Lisa Smith, Michelle Sigley, Justin Sigley, Amanda Mullenax, Paul Pennington, Melinda Pennington, Amanda Mullenax, Jerry Cale, Patty Worles, Debbie Stevens,Lisa Radford,Barb Wolfe, Michelle Mullenax, Kim Falls, Diana Deluca, Angiy Browning, Benny Kisamore, Chris Bates, Leana Johnson,and Matthew Hottle, Extension Camping Instructors Hayley Jones and Drew Shader, Extension Agent in Jesica Streets, and Program Assistant Wendy Wolford.
