It doesn’t take a cape, super powers or a secret identity to be a hero. However, for American Red Cross blood donor heroes, a Red Cross tote bag may come in handy for errands, groceries, children’s toys and more.
As part of a special March is Red Cross Month celebration, the Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region will feature Red Cross tote bags at all blood drives and blood donations centers from Monday, March 24, through Friday, March 28.
Come in to donate blood from March 24 through March 28 and receive a Red Cross tote, while supplies last. (List of March 24-28 Red Cross blood drives follows.)
“March came in like a lion, with winter storms forcing additional blood drive cancellations, so we added this week-long promotion to thank donors who helped to restock blood supplies during January, ” stated Carolyn Kean, Community CEO, American Red Cross, Greater Alleghenies Blood Services.
Kean noted that as individuals may be able to donate blood every 56 days, those who donated blood during much of January could be eligible to donate blood from March 24-28.
Eligible donors with Rh negative blood types are encouraged to give double red cells where available. Type O negative is universal and can likely be transfused to anyone who needs blood. Types A negative and B negative can be transfused to patients with either Rh positive or negative blood.
The Red Cross invites community members to discover their inner hero this month. To make an appointment to donate blood or for more information about other ways to get involved with the Red Cross, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
