ELKINS, W.VA. – Davis Medical Center has gathered specialists together for an event specific to the women in our area. In addition to free screenings and education, Women’s Health Day 2018 will offer women the opportunity to share a meal while learning about current health topics.
Women of all ages are encouraged to reserve their space during the Brunch & Learn. This free event is sponsored by Davis Medical Center and will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 on the first floor of the DMC outpatient center. Reservations can be made by calling 304-637-3152.
Topics have been designed to cover a range interests. Mothers, grandmothers and teens are encouraged to attend together in support of the unique needs each faces at their specific stage in life. Pamela J. Murray, MD, MHP, will be speaking about adolescent and youth gynecology topics including the importance of the HPV vaccine. Marnie Clemens, PT, DPT. WCS, OCS, FAAOMPT, CKTP, FMT Pn1, will provide information on rehabilitation of the pelvic floor which can lead to improvement of bladder control and sexual response; and Rebecca Brenwalt, BS, LW, will address substance abuse, the opioid epidemic and responding to this problem that crosses all demographics.
The Brunch & Learn event is part of Women’s Health Day which is from 7 to 9 a.m. and will include free gifts, refreshments and door prizes along with the opportunity to have health screenings and discounted blood testing. Activities and learning include hearing screenings, pap tests and breast exams, cardiac risk assessment, free flu vaccines, blood pressure, spirometry, and diabetes screenings. Information will be provided on annual wellness visits, chronic care management, Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE), healthy homes, understanding your bloodwork, Population Health, available pharmacy services, smoking cessation, diet and nutrition, PACE financial assistance programs, The DHS Foundation, Access My Chart and thyroid information.
