July 7, 2025 — Breakthrough T1D, formerly JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, announced today the appointment of Lisa Klingler, Lori K. Renne, and Aaron Rosengarten as new Central Pennsylvania Chapter board members. Board Members provide volunteer leadership in their community serving as fundraisers, advocates and ambassadors. They play a vital role in ensuring that the chapter, and in turn the organization, achieves its goals, including deepening engagement and support by engaging and activating more people to raise money to accelerate the Breakthrough T1D mission and to ensure that its efforts remain aligned with the needs of people who live with the disease.

“We congratulate Lisa, Lori, and Aaron, and are delighted to welcome them to the Central Pennsylvania Breakthrough T1D Chapter Board,” said Becky Withrow, executive director of Breakthrough T1D’s Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia Territory. “As we look to engage more volunteers and improve the lives of every person affected by T1D, we’re confident Lisa, Lori, and Aaron will provide a balanced mix of strengths and talents to expand our engagement of the T1D community and help Breakthrough T1D as we move closer to a world without T1D.”

Lisa Klingler lives in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Her daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of six, which sparked Lisa’s deep commitment to advocacy, awareness, and community support for families affected by T1D. Professionally, Lisa is an educational leader with nearly 20 years of experience, currently supervising programs that support students and educators across nonpublic schools and multilingual communities. She brings expertise in program management, community partnerships, and youth development. Lisa is passionate about creating inclusive spaces for young people and is eager to support Breakthrough T1D’s mission in a leadership role.

Lori Krause Renne has lived with Type 1 Diabetes since she was 11 years old. Lori is a seasoned marketing, sales and strategic planning professional with over 30 years of experience. Currently, she serves as Supervisor, Business Development for UPMC Corporate Ambassador Resource and Employer Solutions (CARES) team, serving corporate and community wellness clients. Lori works with businesses across Central PA to strategize and develop customized wellness programs that help companies improve the overall health, productivity, and morale of their corporate family.

Aaron Rosengarten is a dedicated attorney that specializes in complex administrative litigation and appeals. He has gained valuable experience across multiple facets of government, having interned with Pennsylvania state legislators and a U.S. Congressman, worked alongside multiple judges, and currently serving within an executive agency. These diverse roles have provided him with a strong foundation in public service and a deep commitment to advocacy. He developed significant leadership skills during his academic career, serving as President of his community college’s honor society, participating in the Student Government Association, and becoming a founding father of a fraternity at West Chester University. These experiences fostered his ability to lead, collaborate, and make a lasting impact. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 28, Aaron is passionate about advocating for those who are unable to advocate for themselves. His personal experience with the disease fuels his support of Breakthrough T1D’s mission. He is eager to contribute his time, skills, and leadership to help advance the organization’s goals and drive meaningful change for the T1D community.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease. This means that it doesn’t go away. Anyone can be diagnosed at any age. In T1D, the body’s immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is an essential hormone that helps the body turn food into energy. People living with T1D must take insulin by injection or insulin pump to survive. Living with T1D requires extra work, but with the right support and information, you or your loved one can lead a fulfilling, active life.

With supporters, we are creating a movement to improve and change life with type 1 diabetes, advancing breakthroughs on the way to cure the condition. No organization does more to improve everyday life with T1D—from driving millions of dollars of global investment in therapy development and access, to advancing research, advocacy and community support.

About Type 1 Diabetes

T1D is an autoimmune condition that causes the pancreas to make very little insulin or none at all. This leads to dependence on insulin therapy and the risk of short and long-term complications, which can include highs and lows in blood sugar; damage to the kidneys, eyes, nerves, and heart; and even death. Globally, it impacts nearly 9 million people. Many believe T1D is only diagnosed in childhood and adolescence, but diagnosis in adulthood is common and accounts for nearly 50% of all T1D diagnoses. The onset of T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. There is currently no cure for T1D.
