The second of six homes/businesses featured on this year’s house tours is the home of Mary Ellen Mauldin in Hendricks. It is a three story Victorian with three bedrooms and two baths. The home was originally owned by Dr. Carwell, who had it built in 1900. He used one of the rooms as an office and another as an examination room. At one time there were five bedrooms – two were on the third floor which is now used as the attic.
Mac and Mary Ellen purchased the fully furnished home in 1986 for a mere $41,000. They have since redone the siding, roof, deck, covered the porch, took out furniture and replaced carpet. Most of the woodwork and hardwood floors are original. The yard, just under one acre, has been beautifully landscaped with flowers blooming all summer long. The Mauldin children were all raised prior to the purchase of this home but they, along with their children, love to come visit and enjoy the house tremendously.
Come to the House Tours on Dec. 1, 2017 to see this beautiful home. You won’t be disappointed. Tickets may be Dec. 1. Consider carpooling to ease parking and have more fun with friends or relatives. House locations are printing on each ticket with directions on the back. Tours are sponsored by Mountain Valley and Citizen Banks and hosted by PRO ON TRAC. All proceeds benefit the continued revitalization of downtown Parsons.
