Responding to the Corridor H Highway Authority’s recent update on the project, the Go North Alliance, a group of concerned citizens, has released a statement:
There is an alternative to the proposed ROPA alignment. The Go North Alliance is releasing this map today with the design of a northern alignment.
The Northern Alignment fixes many of the problems that the DOH has raised.
In simple terms, one alignment cuts through the heart of the mountaintop while the other circumvents it.
The northern alignment saves money and time by using the existing US 219 corridor.
It protects and saves our towns, our way of life, our economy, the historic Blackwater Industrial Complex, Big Bog Run, and the Tier 3 trout stream Slip Hill Mill Run.
The community-made alternative avoids the city of Thomas’ water supply and the Thomas City Park. It steers clear of the legacy mining in Thomas, Coketon, Douglas, and Tub Run, which ROPA will drive right over, creating pollution and subsidence.
The northern route also eliminates the need for the WVDOH’s Truck Route that throws trucks onto our only local road, Route 32, and straddles the Town of Thomas, ensuring constant noise.
Follow the blue line on the map (a dotted line where it upgrades US 219) to get an idea of a highway that protects our way of life for future generations.
The Go North Alliance is always striving to make the best design for our community. If you have suggestions, comments, or questions, please email info@go-northcorridorh.org, or go to the website https://go-northcorridorh.org.
