Citizens Welcome Expanded Corridor H Study

Citizens pushing for a northern route for the Corridor H four-lane highway between Parsons and Davis have welcomed a decision extending the target date for a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement analysis. The date has been extended from 12/30/2024 to 08/14/ 2026.

The Federal Highway Administration has called for more study of alternative routes for Corridor H. No reason was given by FHWA for the delay, but Go-North Alliance spokesperson Frank Slider says it will provide time for a more thorough and understandable study — including the relative costs of several alternatives.

“We are confident that with the inclusion of the costs of a proposed truck route around Thomas, and the environmental, social, historic, and cultural costs of the currently preferred route, a northern route will prove superior,” said Slider.

Marilyn Shoenfeld, local resident, added that, “our land, like the people who live here, is telling the highway builders to keep out of the land near and adjacent to the Blackwater Canyon. Hopefully the EIS study will verify this contention.”
