The Parsons City Council discussed matters pertaining to the Railroad Alley Survey during the September 19 meeting. Through the use of grant money, LED lights will be purchased and installed along the Allegheny Highlands Trail. A survey of the area showed inconsistencies between public and private land. The Council voted to explore the possibility of abandoning 7.5 feet of Railroad Alley to avoid further land issues.
The Tucker County Historical Society recently conducted a survey of their property, which revealed they owned part of Davis Street. There are 2 other privately owned parcels that extend into Davis Street. The Council is working on acquiring ownership.
The Council began considering the acquisition of the Pentecostal Church property next to River City Park. A community center and sports fields were proposed as uses for the land. The property is 0.29 acres.
The Executive Director of the Tucker County CVB, Jessica Waldo, presented the annual report. Waldo proposed nominating Pickin’ in Parsons for the Mountain State Award. According to West Virginia Division of Tourism’s website, the award is “presented to a community or organization that has promoted and enhanced West Virginia tourism development and enhanced community pride while preserving the state’s cultural, historical, or natural heritage and beauty.”
On September 8, Parsons City Administrator, Jason Myers, was appointed to the Public Employees Insurance Agency Finance Board. Myers will represent the interests of political subdivisions.
A pet waste ordinance and fine were suggested for city parks, and an update from the Task Force Team were provided through public comments.
Two invoices were paid, totaling $28,229.21.
Pumpkins will be provided for painting during the Halloween Trick or Treat event in Parsons. The Council is seeking any interested parties to volunteer for the event.
Bathrooms at River City Park will close on October 1 and on October 30 at Mill Race Park.
There are currently 284 enrolled in the Wellness 24 Fitness Center. Tammy Michael was named the Director of Operations of the Wellness 24 at the meeting.
A resolution in support of the “Roads to Prosperity” initiative was signed. TCHS Homecoming parade is authorized to use the streets of Parsons on Thursday, October 19. On Saturday, November 11, the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary will use the city streets for their Turkey Trot Race.
The next City Council meeting is on Tuesday, October 3, at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Building.
