Coming to Tucker County Fair – Kingsford Pit Master Contest

Contest will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017


Pre-Register with the WVU Tucker County Extension Office by Wednesday, August, 23, 2017 304-478-2949 ext:209

DIVISION  1 – Pork Steaks

THE FOLLOWING RULES WILL APPLY:

  • Anyone over the age of 14 may enter.
  • Contestants must furnish their own barbeque grill, equipment, and sauce.
  • Pork Steaks will be provided by Kingsford.
  • NO FIRE CAN BE BUILT ON THE GROUND. PLEASE do not dump live coals on the ground.
  • Trash barrels will be provided for the disposal of live coals.

Contest will be judged on:

  • Thoroughness of cooking – 30 points
  • Taste – 30 points
  • Tenderness – 40 points

Prizes will be awarded following the judging:

  • First Prize – Plaque
  • Second Prize – Certificate
  • Third Prize – Certificate
  • We reserve the right to limit the total number of entries accepted, if necessary.
  • Judges’ names will not be released until the day of the contest.
  • Judges’ decisions are final.
  • Meat used will be PORK STEAKS ONLY, MUST TURN IN TWO (2) ON A PLATE PROVIDED, WITHOUT GARNISHMENTS.
  • Fires can be started anytime the day of the contest and all Plates must be turned in between 1:30PM-3:00 PM.
  • Sign-in will begin at 10:00 am and close at 12:00 noon, no late entries allowed.

DIVISION  2 – One Bite Challenge

THE FOLLOWING RULES WILL APPLY:

One Bite Challenge is food of your choice prepared on the grill and served on a toothpick. Winner will be selected by popular vote of the public. Prize for this division will be bragging rights for the One Bite Challenge.
