Thomas, WV – December 19, 2025 – After five decades of dedicated service to the aging population of Tucker County and the surrounding areas, Cortland Acres Association is pleased to announce its rebranding to Blackwater Ridge. This change marks a significant transition as the organization pivots towards addressing the evolving needs of our community.
In November 2024, Cortland Acres divested its nursing home facilities, enabling a renewed focus on affordable housing initiatives. Operating as a single location entity has become extremely difficult in today’s medical environment.
The nursing home facility needed an operator with a broader scope and access to resources. With a commitment to better support seniors, low-income families, and the local workforce, Blackwater Ridge aims to expand housing opportunities in Canaan Valley, Tucker County, and the surrounding areas.
“Cortland Acres has played a crucial role in supporting our senior citizens for generations,” said Pat Nichols, Board President of Blackwater Ridge. “As we transition to Blackwater Ridge, we are excited to take a fresh approach that aligns with the community’s current needs. We believe that everyone deserves access to affordable housing, and we are committed to being a driving force in making that a reality.”
Blackwater Ridge will focus on developing affordable housing solutions to ensure that those living, working and retiring in the area have access to safe and stable living conditions. By fostering partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders, Blackwater Ridge is poised to create a lasting impact on our community.
As we embark on this new journey, we invite the community to join us in shaping the future of housing in our region. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive community for all.
For more information about Blackwater Ridge and our upcoming initiatives, please contact us directly at 681-228-9076. Our new website www.blackwaterridge.org will be fully functional in January 2026.
About Blackwater Ridge:
Blackwater Ridge is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens in Tucker County and the surrounding areas. With a focus on affordable housing solutions, we strive to meet the diverse needs of our community while maintaining the values and legacy established over the past fifty years. Everyone deserves an opportunity to come home to modern, affordable housing. Blackwater Ridge. Life, elevated.
