THOMAS, W.Va. – Cortland Acres recently broke ground on a workforce housing project designed to meet the growing demand for affordable accommodations in the area.
This campus expansion will add four studio apartments and provide lodging for staff members generally residing outside the area but traveling to Cortland for employment. The new development is adjacent to Pineview and The Pines entrance, along W.Va. 219. Currently, Sunrise Construction is clearing trees and Roberts Estates Inc. will begin construction of the new units in the next two weeks. The project is expected to be completed early fall.
Cortland Acres Administrator Beth Clevenger said that this project represents the fourth major project undertaken by Cortland Acres the past two years.
“Cortland Acres is fortunate to have a dedicated and compassionate staff who provide outstanding quality care to our short- and long-term residents,” Clevenger said. “However like many healthcare organizations in the area, from time to time we have to rely on traveling or contracted workers, particularly in clinical positions. Providing temporary housing is usually part of the agreement.”
This new housing project follows a $3 million state-of-the-art expansion where a new post-hospital stay rehabilitation wing with 14 private rooms and a larger rehabilitation area was added to the 35-acre campus. Additionally Cortland Acres recently completed the renovation and refurbishment all of the existing rooms and common areas and will begin construction on four new 900-square-foot patio town homes in The Pines, an independent living community.
Development Director Dan Bucher said that Board of Directors is committed to meeting the needs of the aging population in the Tucker County area.
“By continuing to enhance the Cortland Acres campus, our talented team provides a comprehensive approach to post-acute healthcare, rehabilitation and retirement housing for the entire community,” Bucher said. “Cortland Acres is the fourth largest employer in Tucker County. The growth will benefit current and future residents and also allow the long-term skilled nursing facility to continue to provide jobs for over 150 full and part-time employees.”
Services provided by Cortland Acres include 24-hour skilled nursing services, short and long term physical rehabilitation, post-hospital and post-surgical care, outpatient therapy services, memory care services, therapeutic and specialized dietary services and hospice services.
Various specialized medical services on-site include Garrett County Orthopaedics, Garrett Surgical Group P.A., Adult and Youth Services, PLLC and Mountaintop Clinic and Pharmacy.
The Cortland Acres campus includes a 94-bed long-term care facility, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation center and programs, rental apartments in Pineview and townhouses in The Pines. For more information or to set up a tour of the campus call 304-463-4181 or visit www.cortlandacres.org.
