Thomas, WV – Cortland Acres was recently awarded a five-star overall quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), incorporating data reported through 06/30/2018.
A division of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), the coveted five-star CMS award is given to skilled nursing facilities that have earned high scores in four relevant categories and totaled into an overall star rating. There is one Overall five-star rating for each nursing home, and a separate rating for health inspections, general staffing, quality measures and RN staffing.
“This is definitely a team-based award for Cortland,” explains Beth Clevenger, Administrator at Cortland Acres. “This is the result of consistent professionalism, teamwork and attention-to-detail. I witness resident / staff interactions every day that warm the heart and remind me why I chose this profession. Caring for aging or special needs individuals is a privilege and one that we take seriously.”
Starting in November 2002, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), began a national Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI). Nursing home quality measures come from resident assessment data that nursing homes routinely collect on the residents at specified intervals during their stay. These measures assess the resident’s physical and clinical conditions and abilities, as well as preferences and life care wishes. This data is then converted to develop quality measures that give consumers another source of information that shows how well nursing homes are caring for their residents’ physical and clinical needs.
