Cortland Acres receives four star rating

THOMAS, W.Va. – Cortland Acres received a four-star rating from Medicare’s “Nursing Home Compare,” which rates every Medicare- and Medicaid-certified facility in the country. Cortland Acres’ rating places it among the best in West Virginia and the Potomac Highlands region.

The government agency rates nursing home in three different categories: health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. Cortland Acres received four stars in each of those three areas in addition to the four-star rating overall.

“This above-average mark is a testament to the hard work of our employees, who dedicate every day to providing outstanding care for our short- and long-term residents,” Administrator Don Black said. “We will always strive to constantly improve and be the best we can possibly be.”

According to Medicare, data come from two sources: the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) health inspection database, and the national database known as the Minimum Data Set (MDS).

The CMS information includes the nursing home characteristics such as safety, environmental issues, health standards, etc., which were addressed during the three most recent state inspections and complaint investigations. The MDS data involves assessments done at regular intervals on all residents, including information about health, physical functioning, mental status and general well-being.

“We realize objective measures such as these, while valuable, are just part of providing outstanding care,” noted Beth Clevenger, Cortland’s assistant administrator. “We also take pride in the compassion and caring shown by everyone who works at Cortland, and that makes the difference in residents’ lives on a daily basis.”

Cortland Acres includes a 94-bed long-term care facility, in- and outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation, Pineview Apartments and The Pines duplexes. For more information call 304-463-4181 or visit www.cortlandacres.org.
