Thomas, WV – The Cortland Foundation and the Tucker County Photography Club announce the winners of the Second Annual Photography Exhibition. This year, a total of twenty-nine photographers participated and submitted a total of one hundred and nine images for consideration. In the end, the judge and curator, Wil Hershberger, selected fourteen images to adorn the walls on the Blackwater unit and ten more to be displayed throughout the facility.
“The collection of images submitted were impressive”, explains Wil Hershberger. “It was very difficult to choose exceptional images from the collection. After several rounds of tagging and culling, there were still too many images left. After careful repeated reviews the winners were selected. All of the submitting photographers are to be congratulated on their fine work. The winners are certainly stunning images”.
As in the past, photographers were asked to submit images that highlight the beauty and activities found in the northern West Virginia and western Maryland area and are representative of the people, places and pursuits found in this region.
“Every image submitted was beautiful! “, explains Director of Development Dan Bucher. “Our regret is that only a small number of images can be selected for printing. The winners are truly Cortland’s residents, visitors, volunteer and staff who have the opportunity to view and enjoy the canvas prints throughout the coming year!”
Winning photographers include Kilsong Cox of Elkins, Sandra Miller of Buckhannon, Vernon Patterson and Joseph Henry of Davis, Ed Rehbein of Beckley, Bobbie Swan and Rick Morrison of Meadowbrook, Brian Peterman of Bridgeport, Vickie Clutter of Wallace, Wendy Parks of Fairmont, Anne Johnson of Summersville, Gary Loar of Cumberland, MD, George Fletcher of Round Hill, VA, Joe Martin of Effingham, IL, Dana Rukse of Greensburg, PA, David Miller of Wallace, WA and David Johnston of Fairfax, VA.
The unveiling of the new prints will take place on Thursday, September 27 at 7 p.m during the Second Annual Art Auction & Photography Exhibit. The event will also include an auction of various wood-craft items from local artisans Travis Hamrick, Mark Warner, Tom DiBacco and Jared Parsons as well as the winning canvas photographs from 2017.
