The Read Create Through The Decades Summer Program ends with an art show to be held at Elkins-Randolph County Public Library on Friday July 28, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Elkins, WV June 24, 2017: The Read Create Through The Decades program will conclude this week at the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library after five weeks of interacting with American history through computer use, books, music, and art.

“The artwork that resulted from this program was put on display at the library as it was produced, and received so much attention that we decided we must have a formal art show to promote the collection,” said Interim Library Director Stephanie Murphy. “We look forward to hosting the community and showing off the works of these creative children!”

The Read Create Art Show will allow the kids to showcase their work, discuss the decade they discovered, and invite the public to see the great programming going on at their library. Snacks will be provided.

Students, who came from the Elkins YMCA’s day camp, learned and discovered culture, events, people, and inventions of three decades in America. The children were issued their own library cards, so they could continue to benefit from library materials.

Diana Vera, who received a Bachelor of Arts in Expressive Arts Therapy from Davis & Elkins College, taught the art segment of the program. Vera is an Expressive Arts Instructor for after school and summer camp programs at The Arts Center in Elkins and designs project based curriculum of mixed media; movement and storytelling; history and science; arts and culture.

A Snowshoe Foundation grant obtained by Elkins Bookhounds, Friends of the Elkins Randolph County Public Library was used to provide books and art materials for the program.

For more information and a schedule, visit the library’s website at http://elkins.lib.wv.us/summer-reading-program.html or follow the Events tab on their Facebook page at Facebook.com/erlibrary.
