Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is reconstructing a road, parking lot, and trail rehabilitation project out at Camp 70 road in the town of Davis. This is a Federal Highways project that will take place at the end of Camp 70 road where the road splits to the North and enters into the refuge. This project aims to reconstruct 1000 feet of Camp Road 70 that stretches into the Refuge and reconstruct the current parking area with additional parking including parking for trailers. The Laurel Landing Trail will also be reconstructed to improve accessibility for the existing ADA compliant canoe/kayak launch on the Blackwater River. Work is scheduled to begin April 5th, and will last approximately 6 weeks. For that duration the roadway, parking lot, and trail will be closed to the public. Two other trails that branch off this parking area, Brown Mountain Trail and Camp 70 Loop will also be closed during the construction. If you have any questions about this project, please reach out to Matthew Boarman at Matthew_Boarman@fws.gov or 304-202-5366.
