Mayor Bruce A. Kolsun and The City of Parsons Council have proclaimed Sept 17-23 as Constitution Week. Regardless of what day of the week Sept 17 falls on, that date is always the first day of the weekly observance. The Blackwater Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has planned numerous activities to observe and recognize the significance of our Constitution during our 249 years as a country. Debbie Stevens, chair of Constitution Week said, “I’m inviting everyone to come to the courthouse steps on Wednesday, Sept 17 at 4:00 pm and bring a bell to ring for one minute just as the patriots did on Sept 17, 1787 in Philadelphia when the Constitution was signed. This is a great way for the children of our community to recognize the importance of our constitution.” Churches are encouraged to ring their bells at 4:00 to celebrate the founding of our great country. Other local activities will be held throughout the county and the schools all week. If you are interested in joining the DAR, please contact Phyllis Garcia, Chapter Registrar or a DAR member. Featured in the picture with the Proclamation are: Debbie Stevens, Chair of the event and Chapter Chaplain; Cindy Kolsun, Honorary Chapter Regent and Chapter Librarian; Mayor Bruce Kolsun; Cathy Hebb, Chapter Regent; and Pam Combs, Co-chair of the event.
