Installation of Officers was held at the meeting of the Blackwater Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held at Amelia’s Restaurant in Canaan Valley on July 27. Betty Knicley, Chaplain, installed the newly elected Regent Cynthia Kolsun as well as Cathy Hebb, Vice Regent and Historian; Wanda Booth, Corresponding/Recording Secretary; Betty Knicley, Chaplain; Sue Silk, Treasurer and Registrar. Cynthia Kolsun was presented the gavel by Outgoing Regent Wanda Booth.
The President General’s Message was read by Cathy Hebb. The theme for the July 2019 message is “Our Rise and Shine for America”. “Rise” up in Service to Your Community and “Shine” by telling the world about who we are. The Indian Minutes were given by Vickie Mundel and the Treasurer Report was given by Sue Silk. It was announced that the Naturalization Ceremony will be held on Aug. 9 at the Federal Building in Elkins, WV.
A lengthy discussion was held concerning the Central District Meeting which will be hosted by Blackwater Chapter on Aug. 17 at the First United Methodist Church in Parsons.
Guest speaker, Belva Dilly, gave a very informative and interesting history of the Train Depot in Parsons. The Depot opened in 1889 furnishing transportation for the coke ovens, coal mines, timber shipping as well as passenger travel. In 1935 President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited the Depot. The Depot closed in 1958.
