Elkins, WV – Davis Medical Center (DMC) recently hosted a week of celebratory activities including a volunteer appreciation luncheon for National Volunteer Week.
Mark Doak, CEO of Davis Medical Center, spoke at the luncheon with words of appreciation for the volunteers’ hard work and dedication to the patients, medical center and community. Doak called the volunteers a wonderful asset to the hospital and valuable part of the organization.
“Our volunteers give so much,” said Doak. “It is wonderful to honor and recognize their contributions.”
Volunteers assist with many activities that enhance patient care including daily newspaper deliveries, a complimentary coffee and juice service, delivering flowers and cards, attending and maintaining waiting areas and escorting patients throughout the center.
“In 2014, our volunteers donated more than 10,000 hours of service,” said Director of Volunteer Services Valerie Bright. “Their impact is beyond measure.”
Volunteers also include chaplains, who provide spiritual support to patients and families, and youth volunteers. The youth program is administered year-round and offers a valuable introduction to and experience in a medical setting.
During Volunteer Week members were treated to a “Treasure Hunt” hosted by various departments in the medical center. Employees furnished volunteers with small gifts of appreciation for their assistance throughout the year.
“They support us in so many ways,” said Patti Weese, Patient Access Manager. “They attend the information desk in the new outpatient center and truly make the first impression of Davis Medical Center a friendly one.”
