Local and regional artists, arts supporters, and community leaders came to attend a workshop in Digital and Social Media Marketing, Saturday July 9. The workshop was held at the Buxton & Landstreet Gallery and Vandalia Center for the Arts. The workshop was funded through the Tucker County Cultural District Authority’s grant program — a county-wide organization which seeks to promote and preserve Tucker County culture.
Presentations were led by Lisa Armstrong, of Ajuga, Inc. Integrated Marketing + Design, and Richard Clemens, Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Mountain Arts District will continue to host workshops around the area intended to train artists in business-related skills.
Attendees learned how to set up a business page, boost certain posts to larger audiences, and how to crop and edit photos from a cell phone. Other marketing topics were discussed including the importance of hosting both a Facebook page and a website and ensuring that the two sites refer back to each other. Mountain Arts District will be launching a new website in August that artists can take advantage of if they do not have the time or funds to manage their own site. Look to our Facebook page for more announcements for the site.
This workshop is a product of a series of public networking meetings that Mountain Arts District hosts twice a month where artists and community leaders expressed a need for training in this particular area. We will continue to address the needs and requests of artists and our communities as we are able in the future.
Mountain Arts District brings together artists, arts organizations and arts advocates in the northern highlands of West Virginia to promote regional arts of all kinds and help strengthen the arts economy.
