Elkins, WV – Brightly colored aprons hand-crafted by members of the Davis Medical Center Auxiliary will provide stimulating activities for elderly patients with cognitive impairment.
The project supports Davis Medical Center’s Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program, a nursing education discipline designed to improve geriatric care in the hospital setting.
“The aprons are made with various functional elements like zippers, buttons, and shoestrings to help patients remember everyday tasks. They are ideal for cognitive stimulation and improving fine motor skills,” said Misti Shine, BSN, RN, CIC, NICHE Coordinator. “We truly appreciate the time spent by our Auxiliary members to create these useful items for our senior patient population.”
Community groups or individuals interested in participating in the Activity Apron project are encouraged to call Valerie Bright, Coordinator of Volunteer Services for Davis Medical Center at 304.637.3896.
