Elkins Community Blood & Health Screenings Scheduled

ELKINS, WV – The Rotary Club of Elkins and Davis Medical Center (DMC) will offer discounted blood and health screenings on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 7 – 10 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Elkins, WV.
The event will provide the $35 multi-phasic blood panel which includes CBC, comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid panel and uric acid. Other tests available at discounted prices include thyroid (TSH) and thyroid profile, PSA (prostate), testosterone, 25-hydroxy Vitamin D, HbA1c (diabetes), C-Reactive Protein (CRP) , Iron, Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC), and Vitamin B12, folate.
Pre-registration for the multi-phasic screen is not required however individuals should fast for 12 hours before getting blood tests to ensure the most accurate results. Payment may be made at the time of the test by check, credit card or cash.
People can screen for a variety of other health concerns while in attendance. Davis Medical Center’s Better Health Team will provide assessments and screenings for the following: diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, colon cancer, sleep apnea, and pulmonary function.
There will also be information, assessments, and demonstrations for breast health and mammography, hearing, tobacco cessation, Rotary Polio Plus, chiropractic care, fitness and wellness, bone densitometry, Body Mass Index (BMI), and foot assessments.
A Medication Take-Back, sponsored by Health Center Pharmacy, will take place during the event. Expired, over-the-counter, discontinued and pet medications will all be accepted, however, persons are asked to not bring controlled substances, sharps or liquid over 4 ounces.
Community health partners participating in the community health event include event are Davis & Elkins College Nursing, Advanced Hearing Solutions, Jivaka Wellness Center, Health Center Pharmacy, Scott Harris, D.C., and 7 Performance.
The event is free to the public (charges apply to some screenings) and walk-ins are welcome. For more information or to make an appointment for the blood screenings, call 304.637.3270.
