DAVIS, W. Va., June 16, 2017 – A free concert by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, kite-themed Windfest, group hike to the summit of the Canaan Valley Ski Area, wagon rides and star-gazing party are among the festivities planned this weekend at Canaan Valley Resort State Park. Friday, June 30 – Activities get underway at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 30 with a Bald Knob Hike featuring spectacular valley views of Canaan Valley. The moderately strenuous hike includes a roundtrip ride on the resort’s scenic chairlift to the top of the ski area. Other events on Friday include a wagon ride/marshmallow roast departing on the hour at 5, 6 and 7 p.m.; and a star-gazing party from 9 to 11 p.m.
Saturday, July 1 – Activities this day include an easy group hike along the Blackwater River Trail offering great views of the upper Blackwater River; a kite-building workshop for kids and adults alike; jumbo kites and stunt kite demonstration; barbecue cookout; wagon ride and marshmallow roast and 60th anniversary fireworks display presented by the Thomas Volunteer Fire Department in nearby Thomas, W. Va. at dark.
Sunday, July 2 – Highlights of Sunday activities include a family-friendly stream search, kite-building workshop, jumbo kites and stunt kite demonstration, wagon rides and marshmallow roast and a free concert at 3 p.m. by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, presented by the Tucker County Alpine Festival. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs.
