The Tucker Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications
PARSONS, W.Va. – The Tucker Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the 2018 grant season.
This year more than $75,000 will be awarded in grant funding to organizations, volunteer groups and folks working to create positive change in their communities in Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Preston, Pocahontas, Randolph and Tucker counties of West Virginia as well as Garrett County, Maryland. To be considered, groups must be working within the Foundation’s eight-county service area and grant applications must be turned in or postmarked by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21.
To make the process easier, applications are divided into two categories – mini-grants and grants. Groups requesting $500 or less will fill out the mini-grant form. While all requests over $500 will be made through the Foundation’s regular grant form. To download a grant application, go online at www.tuckerfoundation.net/
“For us grant season is always a time of inspiration,” said Rob Burns, executive director of Tucker Community Foundation. “Every year we are blown away by the efforts of hard-working folks who are investing their energy and brain power into improving the places they live and work. And as a community foundation, we are honored to get to play a small role in helping grassroots groups and community organizations bring about the change they want to see.”
Grant applications can cover a wide range of charitable service areas including the arts, education, health, emergency services, community development, parks, libraries, historic preservation and more. In years past, grants awarded have helped a high school theater group afford building supplies to construct a set or a church’s food pantry restock its shelves or a search and recovery crew afford new emergency equipment.
“The Foundation was established following the ‘85 Flood to help local community groups access the support they need and one of the major ways we do that is through our grant awards,” Burns said.
The Foundation’s grant funding is due to the generosity of donors who have established and contributed to the more than 125 endowed funds and unrestricted funds established through the Foundation. While some funds are targeted to support specific charitable areas, others are written to have much wider reaches.
For example, the Preston Community Fund is an unrestricted endowment designed to support nonprofits working throughout Preston County. This year is also the first time the Randolph Community Fund will be awarding grants to nonprofit organizations serving Randolph County. Applications for the Preston Community Fund and the Randolph Community Fund can be found separately on the Foundation’s website. All grant awards are based on a competitive application process.
