The Leadmine United Methodist Women met at the Church Fellowship Hall for their April 1, 2015 meeting. President Heather Lantz welcomed the group at 7 p.m. and Marilyn Phillips gave the opening prayer. Heather gave a biography of William Elmo Mercer, the author of the hymn “Each Step I Take” which is Prema Kines favorite hymn. He composed this song when he was 19 years old and was feeling down and needing some divine guidance. Mercer was born in 1932 and is still living and writing hymns. He has written 1600 songs.
Bobbie Hottle read the “Response Moment, “Sharing the Jobs of Mission.” Heather read from the Prayer Calendar of the birthday for a missionary in Pakistan. The group read the United Methodist Women’s Purpose and for devotions, Prema Kines read a meditation about Jesus last hours. She read from “Mornings with Jesus.”
A discussion was held about the Spiritual Growth Retreat which was held on April 9 and 10th at Cedar Lakes, near Ripley, WV. Wilda Henline received a scholarship from the District for the Retreat and she and Marilyn Phillips attended the meeting.
The Spring Meeting will be on April 25, 2015, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Oakland, MD.
The 2015 Mother / Daughter Banquet will be on May 17, at 5 p.m. , at the Fellowship Hall. Ashley Taylor and Emma Stemple will prepare favors.
Amanda Hile presented a program, “Just Cool It” by Mary Southerland. The program was about appropriate methods for dealing with our anger. The scripture was Nehemiah 5:7, Proverbs 19:11, and James 1:19-20. James gives an excellent lesson. “Everyone should be slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.”
The next meeting will be May 6, 2015, and Heather Stemple will have the program.
Refreshments were served to Barbara Alford, Amanda and Gracie Hile, Judy Hile, Bobby Hottle, Lavera Kelley, Prema Kines, Heather Lantz, Marilyn Phillips, Emma Stemple, Ashley Taylor, Norva Warner, Wilda Henline and Jennie Johnson
