On Monday afternoon, June 7, 2021, Master Gardeners of Randolph/Tucker/Upshur Counties volunteered at Tucker County High School. Teacher Paul Pennington requested help potting chrysanthemums to grow over the summer months. Master Gardeners filled pots with soil, transported them to the greenhouse, inserted the mum seedlings into the pots, and watered them (see below 4 photos). About 500 mums were potted.
The WVU Extension Master Gardener Program provides people interested in gardening with the opportunity to expand their knowledge and sharpen their skills by taking part in Basic/Level 1 and Advanced/Level 2 training programs that provide in-depth training in various aspects of horticulture. The program helps residents better understand horticultural and environmental issues through community engagement in gardening and beautification projects at schools, parks, public institutions, community organizations, and locations throughout the state.
The spring Master Gardener class completes in mid-June. There will be a fall class. If interested and for more information, see https://extension.wvu.edu/lawn-gardening-pests/master-gardener-program .
