A $30,000 grant from the Bernard McDonough Foundation is giving racers plenty of incentive to run, walk and roll in Tucker Community Foundation’s annual Run For It. The 2k walk and 5k race provides an opportunity for participants to raise support and awareness for their favorite community cause within an eight county region served by TCF.
McDonough Foundation awards are determined by their board of directors upon review of the team’s cause; speed is not required to win. The Bernard McDonough Foundation is a 501(c)(3) private foundation located in Parkersburg, WV. For more than 40 years the foundation has supported the nonprofit community in West Virginia and Washington County, Ohio. The McDonough Foundation is committed to providing financial support to non-profits whose mission is to assist with basic human needs including those that address basic health and social welfare.
The Run For It campaign kicked off April 1 allowing team captains plenty of time to recruit team members and team sponsors. The race starts at the Davis Fire Hall, 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27 during the popular Leaf Peeper Festival. Large cash prizes and race proceeds provided by TCF and other race sponsors are awarded to community causes represented by the winners of a broad range of award categories. Last year, more than a 1000 racers competed for $70,000 in cash awards; this year the purse exceeds $75,000. Race day awards will be distributed at the 1pm Award Ceremony held across the street from the Davis Fire Hall.
Registration is in progress and organizers recommend racers and teams register before Sept. 1. Registered teams can be viewed at www.tuckerfoundation.net. Team registration forms, race entry forms, and other event information can be downloaded from the web site. Race day registration closes promptly at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call 304-259-5008.
