Who doesn’t enjoy/need a massive beer or a towering glass of wine after a stressful day, week, month, or even year? (Cue Friends theme song.) While some drinkers prefer to guzzle down cheap, mass produced swill from a can or (gasp) even a box – many others treat their livers much better by being choosey with their booze. Hops and grapes are so revered they not only affect our plans locally, but when we are traveling abroad too.

A day at a gorgeous winery in beautiful weather tasting delicately crafted vino simply can not be topped. Well, except maybe by a visit to a brewery, in awe of the impressive bottling efficiency and drinking enough craft samples that you stumble out smiling. We’ve searched through every state in the U.S. to find the top brewery or winery currently operating. Most are award-winners for their atmosphere or their original concoctions, and all of them deserve a visit from travelers for a tasting or a tour. Mountain State Brewing Company, in Thomas, was included in this list.
