Mountain State Maple Days

Tygarts Valley Conservation District recognizes it is the harvest season of maple. Here in West Virginia, maple producers harvest maple from early February to late March, due to daily temperature fluctuations that build up sap pressure which flows and is tapped during harvest season.

A report by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce estimated that in 2024, maple syrup production reached 12,000 gallons, with the number of tree taps increasing to 70,000 from 69,000 the year prior. The state has over 55 commercial producers, with more to come proving it is a growing agricultural venture.

With this growth, the West Virginia Maple Syrup Producers Association and Future Generations University, a private university leading the charge in maple research in Appalachia, invited registered producers to open their doors to the public during production season, calling it Mountain State Maple Days. This year, the event will be on Feb 21 and Mar 21, 2026.

Check out the West Virginia Maple Syrup Producers Association’s interactive sugar shack and maple distributor map linked below to see how you can celebrate maple during Mountain State Maple Days this year.
