Members of the Mountaineer Garden Club plant a Robinson flowering crabapple tree in Mill Race Park Friday in celebration of Arbor Day. Vivian Shomo told those gathered that trees are important because they produce oxygen, provide shade, conserve water and hold the soil so it doesn’t blow or wash away. She said trees provide homes for animals, trees and insects, and said they provide food and wood. Parsons Mayor Dorothy Judy said she appreciates all the Mountaineer Garden Club does for the city of Parsons.
